October 2, 2012
by

Starting Thursday, October 11 at 8 PM, join EC Radio and the Emmanuel College Performing Arts Department for the world premiere of Mystery Radio Theater! For five weeks, EC Radio will be broadcasting performances of classic radio dramas such as War of the Worlds, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Invisible Man live from the Fenway Room in the Administration Building. Admission to these events is free, and all are encouraged to come out and watch this exciting spectacle, as the student cast will be fully costumed and performing with a full set and stage in front of a live studio audience. Sarah Tortora’s custom-made cupcakes, made famous by EMMA Cafe and other campus-wide events, will be on sale to support EC Radio’s current and future endeavors. These events will be a blast, so we hope to see you there! If you aren’t lucky enough to make it down to the show, don’t forget that each episode will be broadcast live here on EC Radio and available as a Podcast. See you there!

In Boston, the OLD WEEI-AM (when it was an all-news station “at the low end of the dial”, BEFORE it became a SPORTS station) broadcast the nightly mystery theater. I enjoyed my way through graduate school at Harvard with these aural hallucinations that told fascinating stories, including the one about a new religion without any preaching (one of my favorites, since I was at Harvard Divinity School at the time).
